Loving the deep dive into 'world-building' through hospitality activations. Whether it's the Met Gala prep or Milan Design Week pop-ups, the most successful brands are the ones that realize their property is an extension of their storytelling.
I think it’s interesting and there are definitely lots of synergies!! I think belmond is a good example it can work and the company is thriving under private ownership! I met their global development guy who said that they treat their portfolio like an art collection and don’t build a crazy pipeline just for the sake of it! But then again I’ve heard that cheval blanc is not the best and that they suffer from non-hospitality ownership (heard this from someone who works there). But an interesting questions for sure!
Love this answer. It’s a pretty fascinating shift - the curation aspect is present in both industries. I’m curious to see how it all turns out and whether we see more investments like this one
I feel like Marc Jacobs is in a position that enacts freedom, like the ability just to do what truly feels Marc Jacobs and what he's fascinated by at his age and being such a culture sculpture in his own right is fun to watch. I'm seeing Rachel Senot in his campaign, the latest, on billboards in the West Village, then I go to the store and I see her plastered on the wall, and girls are stopping just to look. I think that that drives such a genuine interest kind of view in the brand. And we've seen Bianca Censori, who’s recently turned the chateau marmont into her living room wear brands usually with a bespoke kind of point of view versus like just trying to sell class as a groupthink status signal, and then that becomes a trend on its own, and scaves back to the group think thing. I think that that is the issue a lot of people who are super intuitive have with fashion as a system. And there's so much ads that, you'll see that don't really speak to you and it's just trying to sell BS.
That feels sometimes like a total caveman activity. And maybe Marc Jacobs being exiled from the LVMH system was an actual good thing for him.
People are now traveling just to work out and perform edurance activities versus leisure. Even the acsics store in tokyo will let you rent sneakers pairs or workout gear, for a pretty penny, well yen in this case: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8prKUqA/
It was a blessing in disguise TRULY for Marc Jacobs to be exiled from LVMH….. also Vic you should write a piece on this like how cool are your takes always
I’ve been working on a project lately and interviewing creatives on like the cost of creative freedom and the repercussions of following through on your ideas, I’ll thread it all in :)

Spot on! Thank you for being here Emily 🤍
What do you think of fashion brands investing in hotels, like LVMH investing in the Orient Express brand alongside Accor?
